I have a lot of respect for the 1978 I Spit On Your Grave, even though it's not one I have much desire to watch again. This is a film that never loses sight of its perspective, Jennifer's perspective. She's a very ordinary young woman, living her life, and she's attacked by four very ordinary men who enact unspeakable violence on her and leave her to die. When confronted, they blame each other, they blame Jennifer's clothing and behavior, they blame maleness itself. But Jennifer knows the truth and so does the audience. I don't think this is a movie made for the male gaze...there are some moments where Jennifer is sunbathing in her bikini, and the movie is a 1970s exploitation piece through and through. But I don't think the viewer is meant to empathize with the men at all; I don't think we're supposed to take any pleasure in the assault sequences. To me, this is a film made by men as an attempt to confront the darkness of a specifically male violence against a specifically female body. This is, to me, a feminist film down to its bones.

I feel like Deadgirl has a story and isn't just meant for shock. There is a lot to be said about r*ape culture and "nice guy" personas in this film and I honestly loved it when I watched it. Great video as always! I would absolutely love to see another tired disturbing movie list!!

I saw The Woman during Covid on Plex for free and honestly I didn't think it was bad as I thought it would be. It was very disturbing though.

I've never seen you review Starry Eyes which I just rewatched a month ago and Iove that movie it was just as disturbing as the first time I watched it. Also Dread the horror film I love that film too. I found Dread very disturbing it did have shock value for me and enough gore. So I'm interested if you've ever reviewed Dread as well.

eeeyyyyy hahaha the tier list idea! Nice. I just did a bunch of research own Cannibal Holocaust for a podcast and even though I don't think it's entirely successful in its message I feel like it definitely has one so I'd probably rate that one below s-tier. It was interesting to read about the context of mondo filmmaking when it came out and its critiques of other filmmakers in the genre. There's a lot of literature and essays out there written about its intent. I also feel like Deadgirl had a really strong message? And a pretty clear and obvious one? Same with The Sadness. So to say those films had no intent is madness to me! 😆It's been too long since I've seen The Woman so I can't say for sure with that but I felt like that one also had a very obvious theme, might not have been much but certainly felt like enough intent to me to justify itself, at least compared to something like them guinea pig movies.

Thank you for inspiring me to rewatch the 2010 remake. I still didn't like it, but I haven't watched it since middle school when my critique of it was "not the original, so it's bad". I still think it is bad, I'm happy to have watched it to form more adult critiques and opinions. I have a lot I could say about it. Mostly I agree with your views of the remake, adding that I don't like how they write Freddie's dialogue. It seems the writers didn't consider the more serious subject matter they were writing for and tried to give Freddy the same comedic quips. There the times the actor says these lines that feel like they were written to be comedic but he delivers them with a serious tone, which doesn't feel right for the line, and the times he delivers them comedically which doesn't feel right for the subject. I am not a fan of the dialogue at all. And overall the writing feels like they had a half ass idea, but lacked the creativity to fully flesh it out. So they needed to rely on easter eggs and gimmicks of an already existing movie. It didn't do much besides change a core aspect of the main villain to fit a story they were unsuccessful in telling

I think Barbarian is a gateway movie to more disturbing films and is 100% in the correct category of just horror, baby.

I just cracked up when you said "It's a very chilling film, and I highly recommend it". I just love your sense of thrill and fun. The most terrifying scene in a movie for me is the ending tarantula in the room scene and its sound effect in the movie Enemy by Denis Villeneuve. It has terrified me from the moment I saw it over ten years ago, and to this day, I never entered a room without that image scarily popping up in my head be it for a second or two. Not a good feeling.

Shadow 2009 which is on youtube for free, Vile 2011 Bedevilled 2010 (korean), Dream Home 2010 (chinese) and Mum & Dad 2008 . I don't think i ever heard you talking about these and it almost would make this a complete list IMO Keep up doing what u doing🥰

I want a biblically accurate angel to turn Nancy into a protector of dreams, appearing to battle Freddy and guide the teens in defeating him for good. I imagine in the end her and Freddy would end up in an infinite battle against each other. For as long as there are dreams, there will be Freddy and Nancy, Nancy will sacrifice her rest at the price of keeping Freddy from ever killing again

My biggest difference is that I find Terrifier 2 a total Camp category. Absolutely disgusting, but I still laughed at far too many things. I’m gonna take your word for it and never watch Dead Girl…

Regarding I Spit on Your Grave " I actually believe that the sequel of the remake, that took place in Europe, had an interesting message of survival and the depths of human desperation and the reality of the cruelty of life; that sometimes when you are suffering.....no one .......maybe not even god ((nihilism) will come to save you.......or maybe God does give you a little leeway at least.

I do like The Woman and I'll say why. When I challenged myself to push those boundaries after a while I was sick and tired of the "Oh the person who receives the worst of this punishment is some woman" Hostel had it for example and it really didn't need to do that. It really doesn't feel like it's a coincidence especially when you're watching enough of these in a row. While this may not entirely make it better, relaying this to actually make it overt and how misogynists are never happy with even a submissive trad wife because she had a small if petty degree of agency (like she questions him once and he slaps her in the face) how he treats his teen daughter and excuses his son's horrific actions towards the end of the second act and as horrible as this is, I can dismiss most horror villains in a way that I just can't with the guy. That and I do like the revenge scene. It's like the family unit that he loves the exploitation of in the beginning crumble right before his eyes.

This might be controversial... but I found Deadgirl to be kind of campy, just because it's so insane that I'm not even really that disturbed by it, it's just weird and gross
